In the rocky steppes of Valais there live several rare types of birds (e.g. ortolan), reptiles (e.g. the green lizard) and insects (e.g. the rosy grizzled skipper butterfly - pyrgus onopordi). The vegetation is also characterised by special species.

Visitors rave about the splendid views of the Monte-Rosa massif, the Weisshorn,Matterhorn and Dent Blanche.The mule track still leads past the Dauben Lake to Schwarenbach mountain hotel, which is steeped in history, and then further on to Kandersteg.
You reach Leukerbad on historical mule tracks and an old railway route past the St. Barbara wayside chapel and over a 16th century bridge. At your destination, a visit to one of the thermal baths is highly relaxing.
The artists' village of Veyras, where Rainer Maria Rilke lived, the Raspille Gorge, the Valais Wine Museum in the Zumofenhaus in Salgesch and the village of Varen are all well worth seeing. Another possibility goes through the forest of Pfyn/Finges.
It is the longest via ferrata in Switzerland with difficulty ED (Extrem Difficult).

The oenologist couple Isabella & Stéphane Kellenberger have been running the Vin d'oeuvre wine cellar in the heart of Leuk Town since 2013. They produce quality wines all over the Valais, with the majority of the vines located in the nature Park.

Over the Torrent alp towards Folljeret and Leukerbad through alpine meadows and peaceful woods.
From Erschmatt follow the hiking trail in the direction of Leuk and soon arrive at the High Bridge. Then plunge into the fire-red magnificence of the smoke bushes. After go along the bank of the river to Leuk railway station.
This walk starts at the satellite ground station, goes over traditionally cultivated fields in Brentjong to the rocky steppes. Having arrived in the Rhone valley, we recommend walking through Leukerfeld, which is outstanding for bird-watching.

Leukerbad – Varen ladders – Salgesch
From Leukerbad the cultural trail towards Salgesch goes through agricultural regions, sections of woodland and past rock faces.
From Sierre railway station we drive with the bus to Miège church, where the walk starts. We cross the terraced vineyards in the golden autumnal light and follow the signposted wine trail to Leuk.
Discover wine and water between Sierre and Salgesch. The walk goes from Sierre past the Gironde Lake and along the wild Rhone to Salgesch. A wine-tasting stop at one of the wine partner companies is well worthwhile.

Because particularly in winter a lot of water is taken from the weir in Susten, sometimes the river here seems to be just a trickle.
The trail is rich in contrast and offers a unique experience with discovery on both sides of the valley. Experience the Nature Park with the wild romantic Turtmann valley on the left side and the sunny mountains of Leuk on the right.
The only section of the Rhone that could not be channelled, because of the constant flow of debris from the Illgraben!

The Vine and Wine Museum, Sierre - Salgesch is devoted to viticulture. The 2 exhibitions in the Zumofenhaus and the Château Villa deal with differnt topics, but they are linked with a 6-km long nature trail and as such also form one entity.
The Wine Museum is housed in the enclosing wall of the Château de Villa. It shows temporary exhibitions about vineyards and wine and organises a program of conferences, wine-tasting and seminars.

We will take you on a tour of the most beautiful vineyards in Valais including the wine cellars, with lots of fun and information along the way. Or you can take part in the Salgesch Wine Trophy....
Take the bus from Leuk railway station to the valley station at Flaschen restaurant and take the cable car up to the Rinderhütte. From there the new panorama winter trail leads you to Torrent alp.
The walk starts in Albinen. The trail is prepared with a machine and is about 2.5m wide. The walk can be done without any problem if you have good winter shoes. The superb views over the Rhone valley can be enjoyed all the way to Feschel.
For a number of years, it is once again possible to cross the Gemmi pass from the top and go as far as Sunnbüel in winter. The walk leads from the Gemmi over the Dauben Lake to Kandersteg.
The trail descends slightly, is well cared for and marked.
