Naturpark Gantrisch -

An easy circular hike with views of the Gantrisch range, Lake Thun and the ice giants of the Bernese Oberland.

The easy circular hike starts at the Gurnigel mountain lodge, but can also be reached from the car parks or the bus stops at the Stierenhütte and Wasserscheide. The trail follows a machine-groomed path along the ridge through the forest towards the Selibüelhütte. From time to time you can catch a glimpse through the tall fir trees of the mountains of the Gantrisch chain to the south, including Chrummfadeflue, Nünenen, Gantrisch, Bürglen and Ochsen. In good weather, the ice giants of the Bernese Oberland are also visible. Lake Thun is often hidden under a thick blanket of fog. A compact layer of fog gives us an idea of what it may have looked like during the great ice ages 20,000 years ago. A few benches along the sunny path below the Selibüelhoger invite you to linger. Those who enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view can take the 100 metre ascent below the Selibüelhütte and climb the hill of the same name. The marked winter hiking trail, however, leads from the Selibüelhütte steeply down across the pasture and through the forest to the watershed. After crossing the Gurnigelstrasse, the trail leads across snow-covered moorland meadows down into the basin. The rush stalks of summer often still protrude from the snow. The path then slowly turns slightly uphill towards the starting point at Berghaus Gurnigel.
