Schreeund Bach (Howling Stream)

Naturpark Pfyn-Finges - In many parts of Susten it can be heard day and night: the water flowing down north of the River Rhone behind the railway station that we call the “schreeund Bach” (the word “schreeu” was also used earlier to mean loud talking or shouting).
On the occasion of the Begegnungsfest (festival of encounters) in June 2018, there was also the unique opportunity of visiting the water catchment installed at the stream’s exit. There people were informed that the water had the same temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius the whole year round. Water that immediately flows out of the rocks and has the same temperature over the whole year forms a very special habitat that are called “springs” in ecology. Because the temperature is always constant, special flora and fauna feel comfortable here.
Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, the municipality of Leuk and Leuk Tourism have made the indigenous population and the visitors even more aware of this especially beautiful spring. On the square behind the waiting-room on platform 2 of the railway station, a near-naturally designed location has been created with various installations that highlight the “Schreeund Bach” and other singularities of the region - so that we are even more proud of it!
