Naturpark Pfyn-Finges - Points of interest in Albinen include numerous mountain farm houses and barns. On the other hand, the village church is built in a modern style, after the old church was destroyed in an earthquake. Village centre of national importance (ISOS).
Albinen lies on a southern slope at the entry to the Dala valley and a road connects it to the thermal spa of Leukerbad and the village of Leuk.
Points of interest in Albinen include numerous preserved Valais mountain farm houses and barns. On the other hand, the village church is built in a very modern style, after the old church was destroyed in an earthquake.
Albinen is classified by ISOS (Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites) as a site of national importance. Both the situation and the spatial and architectural/historical qualities of the site are classified as being very high.
The compact scattered village captivates with its impressive situation on a steep slope high over the Dala gorge. It appears to be glued to the slope and thus differs from most of the mountain villages in the region that lies on a sloping terrace. The wooden houses are staggered up the slope in a typical regional mixture of residential and utility buildings.
All season
The walk starts in Albinen. The trail is prepared with a machine and is about 2.5m wide. The walk can be done without any problem if you have good winter shoes. The superb views over the Rhone valley can be enjoyed all the way to Feschel.
The EGGUWEG will lead you to 17 interesting places (EGGU = corner, nook). Between the middle of May up to the end of October all are invited to follow the path and to learn facts about herbs and culture.
In the winter season, the EGGUWEG can be made through the village from EGGU 7 to 16.
This hike impresses with its scenic diversity. Along the way, numerous viewpoints offer beautiful views of the Rhine, which meanders gently through the valley.
